Divisions


Adult teams taking part in the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival will choose from the following race divisions:

social


  • Offered to Corporate teams only

  • Corporate teams who cannot meet the minimum number of employees will race in this division

  • Targeted at teams who are less competitive and/or do not meet the requirements of our other divisions.

  • No gender mix requirements.

  • Drummer/Caller is compulsory. Must be over 12 years of age.

MIXED


  • Offered in both Corporate and Club categories

  • Must have a minimum of 8 male and 8 female paddlers in races

  • Drummer/Caller is compulsory and may identify as any gender. Must be over 12 years of age.

WOMEN’S


  • Offered in both Corporate and Club categories

  • All paddlers must be female.

  • Drummer/Caller is compulsory and may identify as any gender. Must be over 12 years of age.

masters - 55+


  • Offered to Club teams only and will only proceed if there are at least 2 entries.

  • All paddlers (excluding drummer and sweep) must be aged 55 years or above when racing

  • No gender mix requirements

  • Drummer/Caller is compulsory. Must be over 12 years of age.

all cancer survivors


  • Offered to Club teams only and will only proceed if there are at least 2 entries.

  • All paddlers (excluding drummer and sweep) must be a survivor of cancer

  • No gender mix requirements

  • Drummer/Caller is compulsory. Must be over 12 years of age.

 

Is my team in the Corporate or Club category?

Corporate
- Defined as teams formed by employees from the same company, created to encourage team building, workplace camaraderie, and participation in a fun and inclusive environment. These teams may have varying levels of paddling experience and typically train only during the Festival training season.

Club - Defined as any team primarily composed of dragon boat or waka paddlers who train outside of the Festival training season. These crews are generally more experienced and may participate in competitive paddling beyond the Festival.
